Samantha
I have the same 'photog' story as everyone else-
I love photos, I 'see' in photos, and this is my passion. So instead of rambling on about lenses, technical blargage, my favorite f/stop, etc., here's some details, other than being a photographer, that define me as an individual:
-Three things I'd miss if I were ever stranded on a deserted island - music, books and Mexican food
-I love chocolate. I love cake. There are no exceptions.
-If I could choose any other career in the world, I'd take Adam Richman's job on Man Vs. Food.
-I love Latin dancing.
-My favorite color is blue.
-I believe in co-existing respectfully. Love thy neighbor.
-I attended The Art Institute for Graphic Design.
-I dig on fashion. I love the 'Vintage-Inspired' - especially the 20's, 40's, 50's, 60's Mod look, and the 80s.
-I love to paint, and I love to sing. I don't do either very well, but I do them anyway because they make me happy.
-I'm a Capricorn. A nerdy one.
-My family is the most important thing in the world to me. I love and need all of them -my soul mate Jeremy, my two sons Kadin and Max, and my dog Chloe.
"Arms Up"
I get a lot of questions about my business name. People want to know how I came up with 'Arms Up Photography' - so here's the story.
It started with me NOT wanting to use my own name. Simply, I didn't want to become a brand. "Samantha Renn Photography" is long, and though I usually go by Sam, I didn't want people to get gender confused by the ambiguous short form of my name.
In the beginning, I spent days and countless hours making lists of biz names that appealed to me, and of course, all were already owned. In a fit of frustration, I started thinking conceptually - in 'pictures', in images, and trying to think of the one thing that could represent ultimate joy, rapture, happiness, exultation, etc. I wanted to evoke that kind of feeling and image when people read my brand name.
I thought of people with their arms up in the air, raised to the heavens, celebrating. Anything. The image kept coming to me over and over, in all the different situations that I imagined. People at concerts, football games, a group of church patrons singing glory to God, a child celebrating the winning of their kickball game, and my step-sister at her own wedding, just after The Kiss, when she triumphantly lifted her bouquet into the air and pumped her arm. We do this, when we're excited, thrilled, happy, triumphant, rapturous - when we feel good. When we feel glory.
So that's it - that's what 'Arms Up' is all about - capturing and celebrating the moments that move you to get your arms up.
To Jeremy
Thank you for always being supportive, honest, and for making me laugh when I need it the most. Even though we've known each other since we were 8, I still look forward to spending each day with you. Mostly because I'm a dingy, goofy girl and you keep me going in the right direction.
That's a joke. Mostly. I love your company and couldn't imagine my life without you. I love our inside jokes, I need your smile and laugh to feel like the world is right. You truly are my honorable Knight in Shining Armor, and I hope you never stop playing the bass line to Whip It for me (which you do even though you think the song is awful). You are the best. Love you.
To My Sons
Kadin and Max, you two are so awesome. Thank you for always inspiring me to strive to be the best person I can be, to give my all to every endeavor, and to be wise and gentle. You remind me to keep work and play in balance, and how important it is to retain a sense of wonder and a desire to explore.
Kadin, I will never forget sleeping with you on my chest every night for the first month you were alive. Max, I will never forget how you managed to be climbing furniture before you could walk. Both of you are incredibly special in your own ways, and I love you both the same, and individually.
I am so proud to be your mother.

To my Clients, Present and Future
You guys ROCK. I mean that. Not only are you all wonderful, beautiful people, you are incredibly important to me because you allow me to succeed in a career that is a dream come true. I appreciate you all. I'm kind of a cheesy nerd, ok, but I laugh a lot and I'm really laid back. I'm also a really hard worker, and I do all your photos, editing and album design myself. So if you love that photo but want it in black and white, you never have to hesitate to ask me to change it. I went to school for design because I love it, and I chose this career because I love it. I think photo editing is fun, and I'm always happy to make you happy.
So I thank you especially. I mean it when I say that you are awesome, because you're on my list of V.I.P.s - and I appreciate you. Thank you so much for allowing me to live a life that I abolutely LOVE.
